Nestled in the heart of Romania, Bran Castle is an iconic destination known for its captivating history, enchanting architecture, and connection to the Dracula legend. Located near the picturesque city of Brașov, this majestic castle makes for an unforgettable solo adventure. I made this trip on a three day trip to Romania. I was staying at a friend’s place in Bucharest. And I made a day trip to Brasov from where I also visited Bran Castle.
Location and How to Reach Bran Castle
Bran Castle is situated in Bran village, about 30 kilometers southwest of Brașov. It’s easily accessible via public transport or by car. From Brașov, hop on a bus heading to Bran or Moieciu from the Autogara 2 bus station, and you’ll arrive in approximately 40 minutes. Driving is also convenient, with plenty of parking available near the castle. I hailed a taxi and booked it for few hours as I had a return ticket from Brasov to Bucharest.
Once in Bran, you’ll find the castle towering over the village, surrounded by verdant hills and rustic charm. While we were driving to the Castle I got a chance to click couple of pictures of the rolling countryside and beautiful views of the snow clad mountains.
A Glimpse into History
Dating back to the 14th century, Bran Castle was initially built as a fortress to defend against Ottoman invasions. Over the centuries, it evolved into a royal residence and a symbol of national pride. While the connection to Bram Stoker’s Dracula is largely fictional, the castle’s Gothic allure has cemented its status as a must-visit for fans of the novel.
